Import Declaration Service for private persons extended to Åland declarations

Publication date 13.2.2021 17.22
Press release

As of 13 February 2021, private customers can declare goods in traffic between Åland and the rest of Finland using the Import Declaration Service for private persons. Up until now, the system has enabled declarations on goods imported from outside the EU and from another EU country to the Åland Islands across the fiscal border. You can use the Import Declaration Service for private persons 24 hours a day.

When you receive a consignment to the Åland Islands from elsewhere in Finland, you must clear it through Customs before you can receive it. You can now clear your consignment personally in the Import Declaration Service for private persons. You do not have to visit a customs office for this purpose or purchase customs clearance services from Posti or any other transport operator.

When you send goods from the Åland Islands to another location in Finland, you must clear your consignment through Customs before it can be sent. When you send goods or a gift to another private person, remember to show the decision on the release of your goods to Posti or to the transport operator whose services you use.

How to declare your goods

In addition to using the Import Declaration Service for private persons, you can see to customs clearance by authorising another person to take care of it for you, by purchasing the clearance service from an agent, or by visiting the Mariehamn customs office.

New Import Declaration Service for businesses in April

Customs is planning new declarations to be introduced in April 2021 for businesses that transport goods between the Åland Islands and the rest of Finland. Reforms in customs declarations are an element of the EU-wide customs declaration reform.
