Businesses to submit import declarations electronically

Publication date 21.5.2021 9.00
Press release

Customs will renew import declarations in stages, and businesses will simultaneously start submitting them to Customs in electronic format. The company can submit the customs declaration or buy the service from an agent. The declarations are submitted either in Customs’ online service or through message exchange.

As of 1 June 2021, standard declarations on release for free circulation cannot be submitted with SAD forms or with any other documents. After that date, Customs will no longer accept such declarations at its offices.

As an exception, you can still use SAD forms or other documents at Customs’ offices with customer service from 1 June 2021 for

  • simplified and supplementary customs declarations
  • inward processing declarations
  • temporary admission declarations
  • end-use declarations
  • customs declarations for commercial goods brought in by a traveller

The business also needs an EORI number for customs declarations. More information on the Customs website: E-services > Search and query services >The EORI number.
