New requirements for oranges from Israel

The Commission has issued new legislation concerning oranges imported from Israel (fruits of the Citrus Sinensis Pers. species). The import requirements serve to ensure that consignments of oranges do not contain Thaumatotibia leucotreta (Meyrick) pests.

Fruits originating in Israel must meet the requirements set out in point 62.1(d) of Annex VII to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/2072. 
 
Fruit originating in Israel shall also be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate indicating the following: 
- production site codes
- under the heading “Additional Declaration” the statement “The consignment complies with Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/1659”.
 
Importers must make sure that phytosanitary certificates accompanying consignments and the additional statements in those documents comply with the new import requirements. 
 
The legislation entered into force on 1 October 2022.
