New procedure for booking appointments at customs offices from 1 April 2026 – book via the switchboard or by email

Publication date 25.3.2026 10.33
Type:Press release

From 1 April 2026, appointments with customs offices that offer services by appointment should be booked via the switchboard. The new method provides more efficient assistance and streamlines appointment bookings in situations where a visit to a customs office is required. The switchboard directs the customer to the appropriate service channel, for example when the matter can be handled more efficiently over the phone.

Based on a successful pilot

We piloted a similar booking method at the customs offices of Vaasa, Kokkola, Tampere and Turku in autumn 2025. During the pilot project, customers booked their appointment by calling the Customs switchboard instead of a specific customs office.

We found that the customers received help more quickly and that, sometimes, there was no need to visit a customs office. Based on the successful pilot, we have decided to continue using this new booking method.

How to book appointments using the new method

Book an appointment by calling the Customs switchboard on +358 (0)295 5200. The switchboard is open from Monday to Friday, 8.00–16.15. How to book:

  • Book the appointment as early as you can, but at least 2 hours in advance.
  • If the matter requires you to visit a customs office, the switchboard will take down your appointment request. The request will be relayed to a mobile team or to the customs office, who will contact you to confirm the appointment.
  • If your matter does not require a visit to the customs office, the switchboard will redirect you to the appropriate service – for example the Customs Information Service – depending on what kind of help you need.

You can still also book an appointment by email as before. The email addresses of the mobile teams can be found on our website.

Give feedback

We appreciate your feedback on the new booking method. You can give feedback via our website or using a QR code at the customs office.
