We are a security authority that enables smooth international traffic for those who operate in compliance with regulations. Customs is particularly interested in cross border goods traffic.

We are present at all borders and work to secure everyday life

We monitor goods and passenger traffic at the external and internal borders of the EU and Schengen on behalf of ministries and other agencies. We are responsible for the safety of society and all of us. We protect everyday life by facilitating the smooth flow of lawful goods trade. In doing so, we also contribute to Finland’s security of supply.

We facilitate smooth international trade for operators who comply with regulations

We detect irregularities in lawful traffic and international trade, and we are responsible for foreign trade statistic. We ensure the accuracy of customs declarations, the efficiency of tax collection, and the proper targeting of enforcement. We facilitate fair competition and smooth customs services. We ensure that both businesses and consumers know how to act correctly.

We combat crime and protect society

We uncover cross border crime, monitor sanctions, and prevent dangerous products from entering the country. We investigate customs offences detected both in cross border traffic and on electronic marketplaces, and we participate in the fight against organised crime. By enforcing restrictions and prohibitions, we also ensure product safety, biodiversity, and the stability of society.
