Preparation method of the report
In accordance with the State Treasury’s guidelines on sustainability reporting (VK/3503/2024), this report describes the positive impact of Finnish Customs’ operations in terms of the UN Sustainable Development Goals on which Finnish Customs’ operations are considered to have the greatest impact. The State Treasury has updated its guidelines on sustainability reporting in 2024. Agencies can choose whether they want to use the term responsibility or sustainability when reporting on their own activities. We have chosen to use the term Sustainability Report to ensure consistency with the terminology currently used by Customs.
The 2024 Sustainability Report shares the same key UN Sustainable Development goals as the previous reports for 2021, 2022 and 2023. The report was prepared by a sustainability working group consisting of representatives of various units in Finnish Customs. The management teams of Finnish Customs’ departments and Finnish Customs’ experts provided guidance on the focus of the key contents in the sustainability report. The texts in the report were written by specialists in different areas. The senior management of Finnish Customs has confirmed the selected targets and reviewed and approved the sustainability report.
We have used various internal information sources to prepare the report, including the 2024 financial statements of Finnish Customs (in Finnish) , the publication Tullin vuosi 2024 (in Finnish), the Finnish Customs Annual Enforcement Report 2024, the 2024 personnel report of Finnish Customs (in Finnish), press releases and blogs as well as the results of the 2024 VM-Baro personnel survey.
