Delay in customs clearances of postal packages arriving from outside the EU

Some postal packages arriving from outside the EU are currently waiting for customs clearance to be possible. Finnish Customs and Posti have cooperated closely in resolving the problem, which is now being fixed. We will inform our customers when normal customs clearance is possible again. Posti has extended the storage time for consignments that have not yet been cleared.

From 15 March 2021, it has been mandatory to submit declarations for safety and security data before the goods are loaded in the country of dispatch, when goods are transported to Finland from outside the EU by air. Because of this, Posti has not been able to send the necessary new declarations to Customs for some of the consignments, due to missing information. Customs clearance of these consignments is not possible at the moment.

“We have cooperated closely with Posti. This situation is very unfortunate for customers waiting for their packages and we hope that the problem will be fixed as soon as possible. We will inform our customers when normal customs clearance is possible again”, says Ms Nadja Painokallio, Senior Customs Officer.

This problem only concerns some of the postal packages arriving from outside the EU. Posti has extended the storage time for the consignments, for which customs clearance has been problematic.

We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience caused.

Update at 4 pm, 16 April

Part of the problem has already been solved, but it is still not possible to complete the customs clearance for some packages. We will continue working on the problem, and we will inform you as soon as normal customs clearance is possible again.

Update at 12 am, 23 April 2021    

Unfortunately, customs clearance of some postal consignments is still not possible. The repair measures are progressing, and we will inform you as soon as normal customs clearance is possible again.
