Insecticides and other biocidal products

Insecticides are biocidal products. In Finland, only the use of biocidal products approved by the Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) is allowed.

An approved product has a permit number issued by the Safety and Chemicals Agency. Furthermore, sales packages must bear information labels in Finnish and Swedish on the product and its safe use.

It is rare that products sold abroad have the required information. This means that, in practice, you are not allowed to order online or import from abroad any of the following products to Finland:

  • insecticides and rodenticides
  • mosquito repellents and mosquito pads
  • tick collars for cats and dogs.

Biocides are used also for disinfection and preservation

Biocides also comprise certain disinfectants, wood coatings and anti-fouling paints. Importing and ordering these products to Finland is also prohibited without a permit number issued by the Safety and Chemicals Agency.
