Press release

The Commission’s online platform TRACES is accessed with the EU Login username and password. In future, the password alone will not be sufficient. Instead, logging in will require multi-factor authentication.

Access will require two-factor authentication, which means that when you are logging in to the system, you need to use an additional verification method besides the password. One of these verification methods uses a challenge code sent via SMS to your mobile number. You can also use the EU Login Mobile App downloaded to your phone and a PIN code or QR code for authentication.

Read more about the different verification methods in the Commission’s User Guide you can download from the EU Login Help page.

Add your phone number to your EU Login account details by 11 June 2024

Add your mobile phone number to your EU Login account for successful login also in future. You may not be able to access TRACES or add your phone number after the expiry of the time limit. If you have problems accessing TRACES after 11 June 2024, you can contact the TRACES team.

How and where can I update my account details?

You can only update your EU Login account details on the EU Login start page, where you created your account. After logging in, you can update the details on the “My Account” page. If the “My Account” page doesn’t open automatically, click on “My Account” in the menu. Add another verification method on the “My Account” page.

  • If you want to use the verification method “Mobile Phone + SMS”, add your mobile phone number by clicking on “Manage my mobile phone numbers” on the “My Account” page.
    • In future, select “Mobile Phone + SMS” as the verification method.
  • If you want to download the EU Login Mobile App to your mobile phone and use the app for authentication, add the required details by clicking on “Manage my mobile devices”.
    • In future, select “EU Login Mobile App PIN” Code or “EU Login Mobile App QR Code” as the verification method.

You will still be able to update your own details, mobile phone numbers and passwords on the “My Account” page. For more information, see The EU Login User Guide.
