The EU is currently negotiating with the United States on removing customs duties and other trade barriers. The EU has published its planned countermeasures to the additional tariffs imposed by the United States. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland is asking businesses to provide their views on the additional customs duties and trade barriers. Please act quickly, because the survey closes on 2 June 2025.

Check to see if your product is on the list

The EU has published a 200-page list of import products that may be subject to the EU’s countermeasures. The additional customs duties would be introduced on goods imported from the United States from 15 July 2025 unless an agreement is reached in the negotiations.

The list contains a wide range of different goods, such as live animals, foods, alcohol and tobacco products, raw materials for industry, products made from various materials, machines, equipment, vehicles and their parts, furniture, musical instruments and toys. Check if the list contains products that are essential for your business activities. In 2024, products included in the list were imported to Finland from the United States for a value of 1.377 billion euros.

The EU is also considering imposing export restrictions on certain products.

Please respond to the Foreign Ministry’s survey

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs wishes to know if certain import products that are important for Finnish companies should be removed from the list of products subject to the planned countermeasures. You should also provide information about any other import or export products that are important for your company and about any trade barriers in the US market.

Small businesses are also asked to provide information. Read more about the survey and how to respond to it on the website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs
