Other restrictions

Beach stones, seashells, and corals

You are usually allowed to bring beach stones back to Finland from your trip. However, make sure to check with the local authorities at your destination, as there may be specific restrictions on collecting stones or taking them out of the country.

Collecting and taking seashells, sea snails, and corals out of the country may also be restricted. Check the guidelines with the local authorities at your travel destination.

Please note that if a seashell, sea snail, or coral is an endangered species, bringing it into Finland requires a CITES permit. You also need a CITES permit if you are bringing in a product, such as a piece of jewellery or a decorative object, made from an endangered species. Read more about the importation of endangered species and derivative products.

Protected species

You are not allowed to import into or export from Finland any animals or plants that are protected under Finnish law without a permit from the ELY Centre. The prohibition applies to specimens of protected animal and plant species, their parts, and products made from them. Read more about protected species on the website of Finland’s environmental administration (available in Finnish only).

Fireworks

Private individuals are not allowed to bring fireworks to Finland from outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

There are no restrictions on importing fireworks from the EEA area into Finland. The EEA includes all EU countries as well as Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.

However, please note that there are restrictions and regulations on the sale, transfer, and storage of fireworks in Finland. They are monitored by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes). Read more about fireworks on the Tukes website.
