With these tips, you can speed up the processing of your customs declaration and avoid unnecessary request for additional information.

Advance inquiry on taking samples

When you declare goods subject to food and product safety inspections, you can send an advance inquiry on taking samples to Customs’ consumer safety inspection. After receiving the reply from Customs’ consumer safety inspection, enter the reply for the advance inquiry in the customs declaration, with the code FIXXX in the section ‘Additional information’ for the goods item. Enter the reply in the format it was received.

Proposed control location

If the consignment will undergo an inspection or samples will be taken, enter in the customs declaration the place where the inspection can be carried out. Check that the automatically proposed place of inspection is suitable for inspecting the goods. For example, be sure not to enter a container field, which is not suitable for inspecting the goods, as the place of inspection.

Previous document

If there is no previous document or it was submitted under the fallback procedure, provide ‘ZZZ’ as the document type. When the fallback procedure has been used, enter also the number of the fallback document as well FIXXX as additional information, to indicate that it is a ‘previous document submitted under the fallback procedure.’

Attached file

You can send a required attachment to Customs without a separate request, as soon as your declaration has been accepted. Message exchange customers should send the attachment with a separate message that contains the MRN of the import declaration. When you lodge declarations in the Customs Clearance Service, you can also add attachments to the declarations via the service. The matter has been explained in detail in the Customer notice published on 15 October.
