Finnish Customs suspects the operator of a nuclear power plant construction project of a regulation offence
The Economic Crime Investigation Unit of Finnish Customs has conducted a preliminary investigation into a case in which an attempt was made to take archive material concerning a Finnish nuclear power plant construction project to Russia. The preliminary investigation was initiated based on control observations by Customs and on a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The preliminary investigation has focused on a significant number of archive documents that were attempted to be taken to Russia from a warehouse located in Kymenlaakso. Almost 30 boxes of archive material subject to sanctions were seized during the investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, some of the data is classified as material subject to sanctions against Russia.
Violations of the goods sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia are usually investigated as regulation offences. Finnish companies are for their part responsible for complying with the sanctions.
The matter has been investigated as a regulation offence. The managing director of the company involved in the construction project is suspected of the offence.
The preliminary investigation is about to be completed, after which the case will be forwarded for consideration of charges.
