Finnish Customs seizes products under sanctions in Vaalimaa

During the weekend of 2 and 3 April 2022, Customs in Vaalimaa stopped three cargo consignments that contained products under EU sanctions. Customs has started a preliminary investigation into the cases involving an aggravated regulation offence. Customs will hold a briefing on the matter on Wednesday, 6 April 2022.

The European Union has imposed extensive sanctions against Russia and Belarus due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Finnish Customs enforces sanctions on goods as the executive authority. In connection with enforcing sanctions, Customs stopped three transports in Vaalimaa during 2 and 3 April 2022. Customs authorities suspect that the consignments contain products subject to sanctions. Customs has seized the products. The transports were heading for Russia.

Customs will hold a briefing on the matter on Wednesday, 6 April 2022. Media representatives will be invited later. Advance registration is required for participation.
