Effects of the upcoming strike on Finnish Customs' operations
The unions representing government employees, i.e. the Public Sector Negotiating Commission (Juko), the Trade Union Pro as well as the Trade Union for the Public and Welfare Sectors (JHL) and the Office for the Government as Employer, rejected on 14 April 2025 the National Conciliator's conciliation proposal for a collective agreement for government employees. Customs has received a notification of a three-day strike from the State's main contracting organisations. The strike will be carried out on Tuesday 22 April from 00.01 to Thursday 24 April at 23.59, if the mediation does not result in a settlement proposal approved by all the negotiating parties before then.
According to the notification, the strike at Customs includes certain tasks at Helsinki Airport. Once implemented, the strike may affect the speed with which postal consignments arriving from and sent outside the EU are processed, but it will not affect express and air freight consignments. Because of the ongoing strike, the processing of declarations and the inspection of postal consignments may take longer than usual. We aim to process all declarations as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the strike and ask for your patience in the situation.
