Customs participating in the Matka Travel Fair 16–19 January 2025
Customs will once again be participating in the Matka Travel Fair, which takes place at Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre in January. Come and enjoy the atmosphere, ask about what goods you can bring back from your trip, pat a customs dog or just have a chat with our experts. This year, our stand will put the spotlight on Customs’ role as a protector of society.
Travel, explore and experience – but be sure to know what you can bring back from your trip
Can I take any kind of food with me when travelling? Can I bring back a seashell or a house plant as a souvenir? What if I’m travelling with my pet? When going abroad, it’s worth bearing in mind that many of the things that travellers bring back are subject to restrictions and that pets must have the required travel documents. The purpose of the restrictions placed on, for instance, imports of meat and milk products and live animals is to prevent the spread of harmful diseases of animal origin to Finland. Find out about the rules and any restrictions that may apply in good time before you travel to ensure your trip goes as smoothly as possible. Come and see our stand and meet our experts at the Matka Travel Fair
When visiting our stand at the fair, you can find out what souvenirs are subject to restrictions and what foods you cannot bring back. In addition, you can take a quiz to test your knowledge of this topic. You can also meet some of our custom dogs that do an important job at the border crossing points in preventing restricted and prohibited goods from entering Finland. The customs dogs are at the stand from 12 noon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. (Please note that the times may change depending on the dogs’ assignments). Our experts are also available at our stand for the duration of the fair. Don’t hesitate to have a chat with them or to ask them questions about travelling and bringing back items.
