Customs is investigating aggravated money counterfeiting – contact us if you observe counterfeit banknotes
During week 7, Customs seized more than 90 000 euros in cash suspected to be counterfeit. Customs started a preliminary investigation into the case after customs officers seized 60 000 euros in 200 euro banknotes found inside an express courier parcel that had been sent to Finland from Italy. Based on technical examination of the banknotes, there is cause to suspect that they are counterfeit.
So far, one suspect has been apprehended in Finland. Customs seized altogether 34 200 euros in 50 euro banknotes found in the suspect’s possession and in facilities used by the suspect. That money is suspected to be counterfeit as well.
The preliminary investigation has revealed indications of 50 euro notes being distributed.

For the time being, we do not know of any counterfeit 200 euro notes having ended up in distribution.
