Carriers and temporary storage operators: the commodity code will be mandatory in temporary storage declarations from 23 May 2026 

Providing the commodity code will become mandatory in temporary storage declarations. The change is due to the introduction of new entry summary declarations in all modes of transport. The latest entry summary declarations to be updated were those submitted for goods carried by sea and rail.

It will become mandatory to provide a six-digit commodity code from 23 May 2026. At present, the requirement is that either the six-digit commodity code or a goods description be provided. In future, both of these details must be provided for the declaration to be accepted.
