Authorities primarily use digital communications – provide separate consent for Customs’ electronic notifications

In future, authorities will primarily send official notifications electronically to adult individuals who use the authorities’ digital services. The reason for this is a legislative amendment that entered into force on 14 April 2026. The reform does not apply to citizens who do not use digital services or Suomi.fi identification, and paper based official mail will remain available as an alternative.

In practice, the legislative amendment that entered into force on 14 April 2026 will become visible to customers using Customs’ electronic services only at a later stage. In Customs’ digital services, the functionalities required under the new law will be introduced at the beginning of 2027. For this reason, users of Customs’ electronic services will continue to be asked for separate consent to electronic notification until the beginning of 2027, as required under the legislation in force prior to 14 April 2026.

If you give your consent to receive electronic notifications from Customs, you will be notified of documents or messages sent by Customs either via Suomi.fi Messages or by email. When you use Customs’ electronic services, consent should be given separately each time for messages sent by Customs. Customs only sends Suomi.fi messages to individuals.
