Adoption of the Regulation on Deforestation-free Products to be postponed by a year
The adoption of the Regulation on Deforestation-free Products has been postponed for 12 months. This means the regulation will take effect on 30 December 2025 at the earliest. Micro and small enterprises must begin to comply with the regulation six months later—i.e., by 30 June 2026. The postponement does not apply to products covered by the existing Timber Regulation.
Enterprises should continue to prepare
We recommend that enterprises continue to prepare for the Regulation on Deforestation-free Products. Although the implementation has been postponed, the future disclosure requirements will remain unchanged. Finnish Customs awaits further clarifications on the application instructions. Customs declaration instructions will be issued as soon as the information has become more specific.
The Finnish Food Authority will continue to supplement its web pages on the Regulation on Deforestation-free Products to provide the latest information on the progress of the implementation of the regulation. For example, information about Due Diligence Statements has been added to the Finnish Food Authority’s website. When the regulation begins to apply, the statement must be entered in the customs declaration. Due Diligence Statements are submitted in the Commission’s Traces system, which requires registration on the EUDR platform. See the Finnish Food Administration website for more information about Due Diligence Statements.
