Importer: Intensified import controls on arachidonic acid oil originating in China as of 26 February
The European Commission has, as a matter of urgency, imposed additional requirements on imports of arachidonic acid oil originating in China, and the product is now subject to intensified import controls. The amendment enters into force on 26 February 2026.
The reason for the amendment is that the presence of cereulide toxin has been identified in arachidonic acid oil used in infant formula. Read more about cereulide toxin in infant formula on the Finnish Food Authority’s website (in Finnish and Swedish).
The regulation amendment was published in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/459.
Consignments must be accompanied by an official certificate and results
From now on, import consignments of arachidonic acid oil must be accompanied by an official certificate stating that the results of sampling and analyses show the absence of cereulide toxin. The results of sampling and analyses must be attached to the certificate.
Arachidonic acid oil can, however, be imported to the EU until 26 April 2026 without the results of sampling and analyses and an official certificate if the goods were dispatched from China before 26 February 2026.
