I am sending a gift from abroad to Finland
When you plan to send a gift from abroad to Finland, please note that
- in Finland, some goods cannot be received as a gift
- in Finland, some goods may only be received in a certain quantity as a gift
- The recipient must declare the gift if it is sent from outside the EU or from the EU territory, but from outside its fiscal territory.
Check if goods can be received in Finland as a gift.
Note that Customs may request from the recipient an order confirmation, a receipt or a free-form account regarding the gift. If needed, send it to the gift recipient. The said documentation must indicate what the gift is as well as its value.
I am sending a gift abroad from Finland
Usually you do not have to submit an export declaration to Customs when you are sending a gift abroad. However, Posti or some other transport company may need the export declaration submitted to Customs or the transport company’s own documentation on the content of the parcel. Check with Posti or the transport company whether it needs any documentation.
Gifts that cannot be received abroad
When you plan to send a gift abroad from Finland, please note that
- some goods cannot be received abroad as a gift
- some goods may only be received abroad in a certain quantity as a gift
Before you send the gift, check with the authorities in the country in question or e.g. on Posti’s website, whether the goods or a certain quantity of the goods can be received in the said country. Note that Finnish Customs does not have this information.
Gifts that cannot be sent from Finland
Note that you are not allowed to send for example the following abroad from Finland
- medicines classified as narcotics
- firearms and ammunition
- cultural goods such as artefacts and antiques that require an export licence (museovirasto.fi)
- goods subject to sanctions
Note also that the transport company does not necessarily transport all goods. Ask your transport company for more information.
