Welcome to the Customs Museum – An interesting journey into customs history in Suomenlinna! Have you thought about what it would be like, to travel to the past and sell goods around the world and in Finland? What about the significance of car ferries on the Baltic Sea? Do you want to learn more about the significance of customs operations and their impact on today’s trade?

The Customs Museum is a fascinating and unique museum site that provides visitors with an interesting overview of the development of customs operations during its different periods. The collections of the Customs Museum contain unique objects related to Finnish Customs’ operation. In our museum, you can e.g. see old customs accessories, tools and instruments and learn stories about smuggling and other customs offences.

The exhibition displays e.g. a reconstruction of two so-called moonshine torpedoes. The moonshine torpedoes were used for smuggling alcohol during the prohibition.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Customs Museum has the new exhibition ‘By Ferry from the West’, where you can get to know the shared history of Customs and the car ferries of the Baltic Sea.

The Customs Museum is located in Suomenlinna, Helsinki. What could be a better summer holiday destination than Suomenlinna, where you can see the historic fortress and at the same time visit the Customs Museum? The Museum is open from 12.30 to 17.30, Tuesday through Sunday. Admission to the Museum is always free for everyone!

Take part in an unforgettable journey into customs history, and come and visit the Customs Museum with the whole family!
