Finnish Customs restricts the maximum size of the response message DownloadList operation in direct message exchange in June 2020

Press release

Customs restricts the maximum size of the response message DownloadList operation in direct message exchange. From June, the response message of direct message exchange contains the data of one thousand messages at the most. We have analysed the production, and based on the analysis, we have found that practically no DownloadList response messages of this size occur. Therefore, the change is a precaution and does not cause any changes to direct message exchange customers’ integration.

Customs recommends that such direct message intermediaries, whose message exchange with Customs is of a significant volume, implement the Message Notification Service of direct message exchange. For this, the customer should complete an amendment application for message exchange with Customs (Customs form no. 934e). The form can be downloaded from this page Message exchange, the message exchange authorisation service can only be used when applying for changes to message exchange for customs warehousing.

When using the Message Notification Service, the DownloadList operations, which are realised just in case, only restore a short list of messages that have not been retrieved, since messages are retrieved quickly once Customs ha sent a messages notification. However, our production analysis showed that the intermediary does not have a problem in practice with large DownloadList response messages and no changes need to be made to the integrations.
