Exports increased by 27 per cent in May
According to the preliminary statistics of foreign trade of goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports increased by 27 per cent and the value of imports increased by 16 per cent in May compared with the year before. The value of Finnish exports in May was over 5,5 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 5,3 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports have increased by 18 per cent and imports have increased by 14 per cent.
The trade balance showed a surplus of 290 million euros in May. Calculated from January to May there was however a deficit of 750 million euros. Under the same period last year, the balance of trade showed a deficit of almost 1,4 billion euros. Last year the trade balance for May showed a deficit of 175 million euros.
Exports to EU member states increased by 32 per cent in May and exports to non-EU countries increased by 19 per cent. Imports from EU-countries increased by ten per cent and imports from non-EU countries rose by 25 per cent in May. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU increased by 19 per cent and to non-EU countries by 16 per cent. During the same period imports from EU member states rose by six per cent and increased from other countries by 27 per cent.
