Exports decreased by seven per cent in May
According to the preliminary statistics of foreign trade of goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports decreased by seven per cent while the value of imports increased by four per cent in May compared with the year before. The value of Finnish exports in May was 4,3 billion euros and the value of imports was 4,4 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports have diminished by eight per cent and imports have decreased by two per cent.
The trade balance showed a deficit of 100 million euros in May. Calculated from January to May there was a deficit of almost 1,3 billion euros. Under the same period last year the balance of trade showed a surplus of 75 million euros. Last year the trade balance for May showed a surplus of 385 million euros.
Exports to EU member states decreased by nine per cent in May and exports to non-EU countries decreased by three per cent. Imports from EU-countries increased by one per cent and imports from non-EU countries rose by ten per cent in May. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU decreased by six per cent and decreased to non-EU countries by ten. During the same period imports from EU member states fell by one per cent and decreased from other countries by three per cent.
