Exports increased by ten per cent in January

According to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports increased by ten per cent while the value of imports decreased by three per cent in January year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in January was almost 5.8 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 5.3 billion euros.

The trade balance showed a surplus of 530 million euros in January. Under the same period last year, the balance of trade showed a deficit of 200 million euros.

Exports to EU member states increased by 16 per cent in January and exports to non-EU countries by two per cent. Imports from EU-countries remained at the level of the previous year and imports from non-EU countries fell by eight per cent in January.

The monthly preliminary statistics release contains preliminary overall figures about Finland's international trade in goods. More precise figures of exports and imports as well as detailed statistics about specific countries and goods will be published at the end of the month in the monthly statistical release.
