Exports increased by 27 per cent in January
According to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports increased by 27 per cent and the value of imports by 25 per cent in January compared with the year before. The increase was mostly due to the exceptionally weak reference month. The monthly value of exports remained at the level of the last quarter of 2016. The value of Finnish exports in January was almost 4.6 billion euros and the value of imports was five billion euros.
The trade balance showed a deficit of 455 million euros in January. Last year the trade balance for January showed a deficit of 430 million euros.
Exports to EU member states increased by 26 per cent in January and exports to non-EU countries by 29 per cent. Imports from EU-countries increased by eight per cent and imports from non-EU countries by 51 per cent in January.
