Exports decreased by six per cent in October
According to the preliminary statistics of foreign trade of goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports decreased by six per cent and the value of imports by three per cent in October year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in October was almost 4.5 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 4.7 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports decreased by five per cent, while imports remained at the level of the previous year.
The trade balance showed a deficit of 190 million euros in October. Calculated from January to October there was a deficit of 2.1 billion euros. Under the same period last year, the balance of trade showed a deficit of 111 million euros. Last year the trade balance for October showed a deficit of 54 million euros.
Exports to EU member states decreased by 12 per cent in October, while exports to non-EU countries increased by five per cent. Imports from EU-countries decreased by six per cent, while imports from non-EU countries rose by two per cent in October. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU decreased by four per cent and to non-EU countries by seven per cent. During the same period, imports from EU member states remained at the level of the previous year and decreased from other countries by two per cent.
