Exports decreased by five per cent in December
According to the preliminary statistics of foreign trade of goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports decreased by five per cent while the value of imports increased by one per cent in December year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in December was 4.4 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly over 4.9 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports diminished by four per cent while imports remained at the level of the previous year.
The trade balance showed a deficit of 530 million euros in December. Calculated from January to December there was a deficit of 2.9 billion euros. Under the same period in 2015, the balance of trade showed a deficit of 613 million euros. The trade balance for December 2015 showed a deficit of 262 million euros.
Exports to EU member states decreased by eight per cent in December while exports to non-EU countries remained at the level of the previous year. Imports from EU-countries decreased by seven per cent while imports from non-EU countries rose by 16 per cent in December. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU decreased by four per cent and to non-EU countries by five per cent. During the same period, imports from EU member states remained at the level of the previous year and increased from other countries by one per cent.
