When is customs clearance required?

You usually need to clear your goods through Customs in situations where you import, order or receive goods to Finland from outside the EU. Customs clearance may also be required if you send or export goods outside the EU. The requirement of customs clearance also concerns Åland, island of Jersey and the Canary Islands.

The necessity of clearing goods through customs depends on from which country the goods are arriving and to which country they are going. Customs clearance is usually not needed when the goods are moving within the customs and fiscal territory of the EU.
