When is customs clearance required?

Customs clearance means that you notify customs what goods are in question and you pay import duties, that is, usually customs duties and value added tax, on them. You usually need to clear your goods through Customs (submit a customs declaration) in situations where you import, order or receive goods to Finland from outside the EU. Customs clearance may also be required if you send or export goods outside the EU.

Customs clearance is usually not needed when the goods are moving within the customs and fiscal territory of the EU.

The necessity of clearing goods through customs depends on from which country the goods are arriving and to which country they are going. Customs clearance is usually not needed when the goods are moving within the customs and fiscal territory of the EU.
