How are tasks divided between Posti and Customs?

Posti transports postal parcels that need to be declared and sends notices of arrival for them.

Posti stores the parcels in its warehouse until they have been declared.

When the parcel has been declared and the required payments have been made, Posti will deliver the parcel to you.

Posti returns consignments that have not been declared or retrieved.

A customs declaration is submitted to Customs, that is, the consignment is cleared through customs, and the import duties and taxes due are paid. You can declare the consignments and pay the import duties and taxes due in the Customs’ Import Declaration Service for private persons.

Customs does NOT transport or store consignments, submit notices of arrival or return consignments.
