Press release

The calculation of the volume and unit value indexes of foreign trade will be renewed starting with the indexes for January 2013. With the new, more expedient publication schedule for indexes, all information concerning a single statistical reference month will be published simultaneously in the monthly foreign trade statistics starting with the information for January 2013.

The calculation of the volume and unit value indexes of foreign trade will be renewed starting with the indexes for January 2013. The publication date is 28 March 2013. In the future, all indexes will be published separately for internal and external trade in terms of both import and export. The new base year is 2010 (2010=100). Index headings will be based on the CPA 2008 product classification (the most detailed level is 3-digit) and will be published earlier than before - within nine weeks of the end of the statistical reference month. All indexes with base year 2010 will be available also in the Uljas database in the future.

With the new, more expedient publication schedule for indexes, all information concerning a single statistical reference month will be published simultaneously in the monthly foreign trade statistics starting with the information for January 2013. This makes it easier to get an overall view of the development of foreign trade. The analysis section of the monthly foreign trade statistics has been changed in accordance with the renewal. Some patterns and tables concerning volume and unit value indexes have been added to the statistics. The other patterns and tables will remain as they are, apart from two monthly-changing patterns which will be removed from the statistics. The numbering of the patterns and tables will however change.

The final volume and unit value indexes (for December 2012) calculated on the basis of the old base year (1997=100) will be published in a separate bulletin on 28 March 2013.
