Instructions for businesses

Information service provides basic instructions regarding customs matters or special instructions on customs procedures. You can also enquire about payments or applying for authorisations. Dial the telephone service number according to the subject of your question.

Customs Information provides general advice and cannot provide binding information on, for example, commodity codes. Read more about applying for binding tariff information.

When you send confidential information or personal details to Customs, we recommend that you use secure email.

General instructions for businesses

For example, you can ask about following subjects:

  • commodity codes and taxes
  • import and export restrictions
  • help, if your company is only just starting an import and export business. 
Åland Islands tax border information
Mon–Fri 9 am–3 pm

You can ask 

  • about trade between the Åland Islands and mainland Finland (for example, which declarations have to be submitted and when, and, who is responsible for submitting the declaration)  
  • about the use of the service “Recapitulative statements for tax border customers” (ALA).
Instructions regarding special matters (authorisations, guarantees and initiating message declaration)

For example, you can ask about following subjects:

  • when to apply for an authorisation that is granted by Customs and which are the authorisation requirements
  • when is a guarantee required of me
  • when to initiate message declaration and what does it require of my company.

We aim to answer your enquiry no later than within three working days. If the matter is urgent, you can call the “General instructions for businesses” service number. 

Intrastat declarations

You can ask about

  • declarations of intra-EU trade
  • the use of the Intrastat Declaration Service.
Statistics service

You can ask about

  • finding and interpreting statistics on the foreign trade of goods
  • the use of the service for searching data in international trade statistics i.e. ULJAS database. 

Payment transactions

  • periodic filings 
  • payments.
Debt collection

  • requests for payment

Requests to customers for statistical information on import and export customs declarations (imports) (exports)

Send your answers to these addresses, if Customs has sent you an inspection request concerning information you provided.  No advice is available at these addresses.

  • reference amounts and guarantee requirements (Customs does not calculate reference and guarantee amounts before you have lodged the application for guarantee authorisation).
