Exports decreased by 11 per cent in April

According to the preliminary statistics of foreign trade of goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports decreased by 11 per cent while the value of imports increased by four per cent in April compared with the year before. The value of Finnish exports in April was almost 4.3 billion euros and the value of imports was 4.5 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports have diminished by eight per cent and imports by four per cent.

The trade balance showed a deficit of 225 million euros in April. Calculated from January to April there was a deficit of almost 1.1 billion euros. Under the same period last year, the balance of trade showed a deficit of 305 million euros. Last year the trade balance for April showed a surplus of 475 million euros.

Exports to EU member states decreased by six per cent in April and exports to non-EU countries by 17 per cent. Imports from EU-countries increased by one per cent and imports from non-EU countries by nine per cent in April. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU decreased by six per cent and to non-EU countries by 12 per cent. During the same period, imports from EU member states fell by two per cent and from other countries by seven per cent.

The monthly preliminary statistics release contains preliminary overall figures about Finland's foreign trade of goods. More precise figures of exports and imports as well as detailed statistics about specific countries and goods will be published at the end of the month in the monthly statistical release.
