Exports decreased by three per cent in February

According to the preliminary statistics of foreign trade of goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports decreased by three per cent and the value of imports by six per cent in February compared with the year before. The value of Finnish exports in February was almost 4.1 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 4.2 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports have diminished by six per cent and imports by seven per cent.

The trade balance showed a deficit of 100 million euros in February. Calculated from January to February there was a deficit of 475 million euros. Under the same period last year the balance of trade showed a deficit of 575 million euros. Last year the trade balance for February showed a deficit of 275 million euros.

Exports to EU member states decreased by two per cent in February and exports to non-EU countries by three per cent. Imports from EU-countries fell by one per cent and imports from non-EU countries by 15 per cent in February. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU decreased by five per cent and to non-EU countries by seven. During the same period imports from EU member states fell by four per cent and from other countries by 12 per cent.

The monthly preliminary statistics release contains preliminary overall figures about Finland's foreign trade of goods. More precise figures of exports and imports as well as detailed statistics about specific countries and goods will be published at the end of the month in the monthly statistical release.
