Exports increased by six per cent in August
According to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports increased by six per cent and the value of imports by eight per cent in August year-on-year. The value of Finnish exports in August was almost 5.1 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 5.5 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports increased by seven per cent and imports by six per cent.
The trade balance showed a deficit of 400 million euros in August. Calculated from January to August there was a deficit of slightly over 1.6 billion euros. Under the same period last year, the balance of trade showed a deficit of 1.7 billion euros. Last year the trade balance for August showed a deficit of 259 million euros.
Exports to EU member states remained at the level of the previous year, but exports to non-EU countries grew by 14 per cent in August. Imports from EU-countries increased by one per cent and imports from non-EU countries by 20 per cent in August. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU rose by six per cent and to non-EU countries by eight per cent. During the same period, imports from EU member states rose by five per cent and from other countries by eight per cent.
The monthly preliminary statistics release contains preliminary overall figures about Finland's international trade in goods. More precise figures of exports and imports as well as detailed statistics about specific countries and goods will be published at the end of the month in the monthly statistical release.
