Exports increased by 18 per cent in August
According to the preliminary statistics of international trade in goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports increased by 18 per cent and the value of imports by nine per cent in August compared with the year before. The value of Finnish exports in August was slightly over 4.7 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 4.9 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports increased by 16 per cent and imports by 14 per cent.
The trade balance showed a deficit of 150 million euros in August. Calculated from January to August there was a deficit of almost 1.4 billion euros. Under the same period last year, the balance of trade showed a deficit of almost two billion euros. Last year the trade balance for August showed a deficit of 481 million euros.
Exports to EU member states increased by 21 per cent in August and exports to non-EU countries by 14 per cent. Imports from EU-countries increased by ten per cent and imports from non-EU countries by eight per cent in August. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to the EU area increased by 17 per cent and to non-EU countries by 14. During the same period, imports from EU member states rose by eight per cent and from other countries by 22 per cent.
