Exports decreased by three per cent in August
According to the preliminary statistics of foreign trade of goods provided by Finnish Customs, the value of Finnish exports decreased by three per cent while the value of imports increased by three per cent in August compared with the year before. The value of Finnish exports in August was 3.9 billion euros and the value of imports was slightly under 4.4 billion euros. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports have decreased by six per cent and imports by one per cent.
The trade balance showed a deficit of 455 million euros in August. Calculated from January to August there was a deficit of slightly over 1.7 billion euros. Under the same period last year, the balance of trade showed a surplus of 36 million euros. Last year the trade balance for August showed a deficit of 226 million euros.
Exports to EU member states decreased by two per cent and exports to non-EU countries by three per cent in August. Imports from EU-countries decreased by one per cent while imports from non-EU countries increased by nine per cent in August. Calculated from the beginning of the year, exports to EU countries decreased by three per cent and to non-EU countries by nine. During the same period, imports from EU member states remained at the level of the previous year, but decreased from other countries by two per cent.
