The presentation of percentage change in Preliminary statistics on the international trade in goods has been changed from July 2019 and onwards. The data is now presented with one decimal place.

Seasonal adjustment – updated program version and methodological change

Seasonal adjustment is a statistical technique to remove the effects of seasonal calendar influences operating on a series. Irregular fluctuations in the trend series have also been filtered off. The TRAMO/SEATS method recommended by Eurostat has been implement in the seasonal adjustment of the foreign trade series. Starting July 2019 a new version of Demetra, the JDemetra+2.2.2, has been implemented in calculating seasonal adjustments. The new version is more advanced and more reliable compared to the old one. Data starting year 2010 is now used in calculation. The time series used is over seven years and in accordance with the recommendations. Because of the program updating and the shorter time series used seasonal adjustments and trend series for previous months have been revised.
