Press release

Customs’ customer service has been contacted regarding a scam message involving Finnish Customs. Among other things, the scam message mentions that a monetary consignment has been stopped and sent back to the consignor or the country it was originally sent from. The message also mentions that a previous fund remittance was successful.

The layout of the Customs scam messages may resemble Customs’ own layout with e.g. the Customs logo and stamp (although with a misprint). The messages are also quite well written. The scam message currently in circulation may also has a signature that looks real.

Example of a scam message involving Finnish Customs

Customs fee via e-services, at a customs office or bank

The Customs payment transactions are mainly carried out via the electronic services, where the transactions are carried out following strong authentication. Furthermore, payments involving Customs can be paid at customs offices and banks that receive Customs’ cash payments.

Finnish Customs does not contact their customers by mail or email and request payments. Particular caution should be exercised if payments are requested to foreign bank accounts in the name of Customs or payments in a currency other than euro, or if the email contains a link to a website where bank identification information or credit card information is requested.
