The third customs auction regarding vehicles left at the eastern border takes place on 14 July in Salla

Customs auctions off 22 uncleared vehicles abandoned to the State, in Salla on 14 July 2017. The auction is the third of its kind where vehicles left by asylum seekers at the eastern border crossing point in Finland are being sold.

The vehicles that are being auctioned off on Friday have been under investigation by the border guard and have now been released for auction through a court decision. The vehicles on sale are mainly eastern Volga and Lada cars.

The auction takes place on 14 July at 2 – 4 p.m. in the yard of the former People’s house at Kansantie 3, 98900 Salla. Vehicles 1 – 18 in the auction catalogue can be seen beforehand at the auction place, and at the Salla recycling station on 13 July at 2 – 4 p.m. and on 14 July at 10 – 12 noon. vehicles 19 – 22 can be seen daily at Raja-Jooseppi customs office at 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.

The corresponding auctions in 2016 in Salla and Raja-jooseppi, yielded around 36,000 euros to the state. Vehicles sold were 164 in all and the sale prices ranged between 1 – 1,200 euros. The cars where mainly bought by car enthusiasts or ended up at wrecking yards.  

Customs is not responsible for the condition of the vehicles, their suitability for any reported use or for the correctness of the odometer readings or any other related information. Value added tax of 24% will be added to the auction price. A vehicle purchased at a customs auction may not be used in traffic or registered before the car tax imposed on it has been paid.
